Lottie's Way - The Charlotte Hope Foundation, is on a mission to make a positive impact in the lives of underprivileged young adults and children worldwide. Our goal is to provide support and access to education for those who are facing poverty or other barriers. We understand that education is a powerful tool that can break the cycle of poverty and open doors to a brighter future. Unfortunately, many children around the world do not have the same opportunities as others due to their circumstances.
It's hard to ignore the stark reality that not all adults and children have the same opportunities in life. Many young ones are born into poverty-stricken families or live in regions where access to education is limited. These children are often forced to forego their dreams and aspirations, simply because they lack the resources and support to pursue them. That's where Lottie's Way comes in.
Embarking on a meaningful endeavor! Our goal is to provide financial assistance to charities and organisations dedicated to enhancing young adults and children's lives through education and other resources, whether this is providing school supplies such as books and uniform, food items or working with a charities to help fund further education for underprivileged young adults.
Our team of trustees will carefully consider how we offer funding and resources to ensure it fits with our charitable vision to ensure the money we raise is used in the best possible way to help enhance the futures of young adults and children worldwide.
Our second trip as Lotties Way, with our partner appeal - Taking Football to Africa and Beyond was Nepal! A team of 12 volunteers including two trustees; Neil Hope and Sophie Goodwin were present. In Feb/March 2025, for a 17 day trip. This trip included a 4 day, 38km trek in the lower Annapurna range from Galeshwor to Mohare Dandi, highest point being 3316m, visiting schools en route, visits to the British Army Training Unit, Gurkha Welfare Trust, and Gurkha Museum in Pokhara. We were also present to celebrate the incredible Holi Day in the capital.
In addition to the TFTAAB appeal delivering their football kits, Lotties Way donated to two organisations, a £2500 was made to the Gurkha Welfare Trust, for use in educational programmes for children of serving and retired Gurkhas. In Kathmandu, a donation of £500 was made to one of the schools and will also be used for essential educational items. Lotties Way is proud to have initiated what will hopefully be a long-standing link with the school!
Neil said, ‘I am extremely proud to see the success of the appeal over so many years and our fabulous links to Lottie’s Way which allow us to celebrate Charlotte’s short life. Hopefully the continued efforts of both the Appeal and the Charity will help so many others. I am hugely thankful to those volunteers who travelled to Nepal with us, at their own expense, to help promote and continue our work. Special thanks to my
fellow trustee (at just 22 years old) and great friend of my daughter, Sophie Goodwin for her excellent social media posts and to Sue Crooks for being my deputy and keeping in all running when I was ill. Also special thanks to our Lottie’s Way Patron, Air Vice-Marshal Tamara Jennings CB OBE for joining us, with her husband Jack, on the trip.
Sophie said, ‘Nepal was my third trip with TFTAAB/Lottie’s Way, but my first as an official trustee of Lottie’s Way! Nepal is a beautiful country, and trekking through the different landscapes, with such an amazing team was an experience I’ll never forget.
I’m so proud of what Lottie’s Way has become, the work that we do to honour Charlotte’s memory and to raise awareness of what an incredible person she was. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of it. A huge thank you to Neil for another fantastic trip and to all the volunteers who made it so special!
Our first trip as a charity, with our partner Taking Football To Africa and Beyond was Kenya in April 2024! We had a team of 15 volunteers, and completed 35 separate deliveries in and around Nairobi, and in Gilgil! During some of these deliveries which were predominately all TFTAAB based, delivering football kit and other sport supplies - As Lottie's Way we were able to start spending our funds raised on this visit, providing essential aid through educational items for Starkids Academy in Githorogo, The Rotary School in Kibera and STATRA Academy in Kibera. Food and Bay formula was bought for Loving Hands Orphanage in Gilgil and Hope House Orphanage in Mountain View. In total over £1300 was spent, baby formula and food to orphanages and schools in Nairobi and Gilgil.
In completing the deliveries, the team interacted with children and adults in the major slum areas of Kibera, Kibagare and Mathare as well as schools, orphanages and football teams who were all in need of essential, life changing aid. Kibera is Africa’s largest slum with over one million people living in an area of around 3 square kilometres with no permanent running water or electricity supplies and no sewerage system. In Gilgil, the team were honoured to be able to spend 2 nights at the Restart Centre, founded by the incredible Mary Coulson MBE.
Neil said, ‘This delivery visit was superb in allowing the Appeal to renew its friendships across Kenya. Building on our continued success coupled with this being my 18th Kenya delivery trip and with over 120 people taking part over the years was special, especially given the emotional issues in continuing to return to the country and people my daughter cherished. The trip was emotionally difficult but made easier by the excellent team of people joining and supporting me. I am proud that we have now started fundraising for Lottie’s Way with some excellent work by the Charity lead, Chris Hope, and the Trustees.
